Devhata shrimp farmers to Dumuria in Khulna to experience semi-intensive lump farming

Under the Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project of the Department of Fisheries, 25 shrimp cluster farmers from Debhata Upazila of Satkhira District visited Dumuria Upazila of Khulna District to share their experiences.
They were welcomed by Dumuria Upazila Fisheries DepartmentSenior Upazila Fisheries Officer Sohel Md Zillur Rahman Regan. Other officials and employees of the department were present at the time.
In addition to 25 cluster farmers under the leadership of Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer of Debhata Upazila Md. Abubakar Siddique, Project Marine Fisheries Officer Md. Sajjad Hossain and other employees of Debhata Fisheries Department participated in the visit.
Baradanga of Dumuria upazila for farmers to share their experiencesShrimp farmers visited Cluster-II. Extensive discussion and question-and-answer sessions were held between the farmers of both the clusters during the experience exchange tour.
On this occasion, lump farmers Shuvendu Biswas, Jaiprakash Biswas, Sujit Mondal, Sabbir Hossain Raju and successful cluster leader Sheikh Mahtab Hossain spoke.

The farmers then visited the semi-intensive (all male) Galda project which was supplied by PL Fishtech. Farmers observed that the lump weight was 25-30 grams in 83 days. Cultivation is being done following all protocols of semi-intensive farming. Satkhira District Fisheries Officer GM Salim, Khulna District Fisheries Officer Md. Badruzzaman, Directorate of Fisheries, Khulna Division Assistant Director Md. Manjurul Islam were present.
Speakers said, if the Baradanga model is followed in other areas, the farmers will be able to increase production by 2-3 times.
Farmers through experience exchange toursThe present farmers expressed satisfaction that they have benefited a lot. In the future they expressed confidence to increase fishtech's male lump PL stocking, better nursery, biosecurity, depth in shrimp farming in this technology. Farmers requested the Department of Fisheries to take more such initiatives in future.
