Journalist arrested in ghost case: Jasim Uddin sent from Noakhali to Barisal jail

Journalist Jasim Uddin of Noakhali's Sonaimuri Upazila has been sent to Barisal Jail after being arrested in a mysterious "ghost" case. Noakhali jail authorities shifted him to Barisal on Saturday (October 18) morning.
Earlier last Wednesday (October 15) afternoon, Senbag police station from a rented house in Sonaimuri cityJournalist Jasim Uddin was arrested. He is the Sonaimuri Upazila Correspondent of Daily Swadesh Pratid and son of deceased Abdul Jalil of Kaluai village of Nadna Union of Upazila.
When asked about the reason for the arrest, Inspector (Investigation) of Senbagh Police Station Mohammad Ali said, "He was arrested on the basis of an arrest warrant in a 2019 case." However, in that warrant, the name of journalist Jasim Uddin's father is shown as 'unknown' andThe address mentioned is a house in Birampur village of Chhatarfaia union of Senbag upazila - which is his in-laws' house.
Chaleha Begum, wife of the arrested journalist, alleged, "My husband has never visited Barisal or committed any crime there. He has been regularly publishing news against corruption and criminals. An influential group has planned a bogus case in Barisal to frame him."
ThursdayAt noon, Jasim Uddin was taken to Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. When his lawyer Advocate Shakeel Ahmed applied for bail, the court fixed Sunday for the hearing and ordered him to be remanded till then.
Journalist Jasim Uddin was thus arrested in a case of a distant district and sent to Barisal, causing intense anger and concern among local journalists. Now everyone's eyesTowards tomorrow's bail hearing.
Meanwhile, Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshed Alam said, "Senbag police station did not take any written permission from us before conducting the operation in Sonaimuri, nor did they seek the cooperation of the local police."
