Dumki-Bakerganj, Du, upazila, the construction work of Jalisa-Nalua bridge has not started even in four years.
On June 8, 2021, Ekne approved Baherchar-Nalua bridge on Payra river to establish direct communication between Dumki of Patuakhali district and Bakerganj upazila of Barisal.
In the project, the construction of the bridge is supposed to be completed on December 31, 2025, but the construction of the bridge worth Tk 61 crore has not started even after four years. People crossing the river said that even after the approval of the promised project and the finalization of the bridge design, for mysterious reasons, instead of the designated place in Baherchar-Nalua, the initiative is being taken to construct the bridge in Jalisa-Daspara area. Also, new roads have to be constructed for the construction of bridges. The cost is also increasing manifold. According to them, the Nalua-Baherchar road has already been constructed. Thousands of people and vehicles cross here daily by ferry. If the bridge is constructed in the Jalisa-Daspara area, the government will lose about 500 crore rupees. Local residents will not get any benefit from this bridge. They claim, EknekeThe locals have already sent a letter to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges to build the Nalua-Baherchari bridge in order to save money from the government and build the Nalua-Baherchari bridge as per the project approved by Ekne. The proposed bridge construction project from Kawarchar to Dumki (Charamddi-Charadi-Dudhal-Kabai-Nalua) of the upazila was approved on June 8, 2021. 1300 metersThe implementation period of the long bridge is estimated from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2025. Hydraulic and morphological studies have already been completed to determine the type of bridge. The design is finished.
