Does Allah forgive past sins if you repent?

One of the great attributes of Allah in Islam is that He is Most Forgiving and Most Merciful. No matter how great wrongdoing or sin a person commits, if he sincerely repents and returns to Allah, then Allah will forgive all his past sins.

Allah Ta’ala has said in the Holy Qur’an:

“Oh myServants, you have transgressed upon yourselves! Do not despair of God’s mercy. Surely Allah forgives all sins. Verily He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
(Surah Az-Zumar, verse 53)

This verse is a shining example of Allah’s infinite mercy. Here Allah Himself declares—’All sins will be forgiven’—if the servant sincerely returns to Him.

However, there are certain conditions for repentance to be accepted:
True repentance: for sinBe sincerely repentant.
Renunciation: Relinquishment of the sin for which one is repenting.
Firm commitment not to repeat: To promise not to do the same thing again in the future.
Realization of human rights: making amends if someone has been harmed.

Rasulullah (s.a.w.) said—

“Whoever repents, it is as if he had no sin.”
(Ibn Majah)

Therefore, repentance is not only a way to get rid of sins, but it is also a way for people to start life anewgives opportunity The door of God’s mercy is never closed—until man knocks on it himself.

If you repent of your past sins today, return to God’s court without delay. Repent sincerely – surely Allah will forgive all your past sins.
