After almost three months, the iconic suspension bridge of Rangamati is visible again. As the water in Kaptai lake started to recede, finally after 86 days the water was removed from the footing of the bridge. After a long hiatus, the bridge area has become bustling with tourists and locals from Friday morning (October 24).
Visitors from different districts have been on the bridge since morningSeen walking and taking pictures. In the afternoon, tourist holiday complex area can be seen crowded with tourists.
According to tourism authority sources, the hanging bridge sank due to rising water in Kaptai Lake on July 30. After that, the tourism authority banned tourists from entering the bridge for the sake of safety. During this time, many visitors came on tour and returned disappointed without seeing this iconic structure.
Rangamati Tourism HolidayComplex Manager Alok Vikas Chakma said,
“After about three months, we have completed the cleaning work as soon as the water receded from the bridge. The bridge has been opened for visitors from today. Some renovation work is still to be done, but with the tourist season ahead, we hope to be able to recover some of the losses of the last three months.”
Local tourist Rubel Datta said,
“I have been waiting for the bridge for a long timeto see I can walk across the bridge again today, it feels great. There is also an opportunity to take pictures.”
Another visitor Mamata Chakma said,
“I brought my family. Visiting the hanging bridge after a long time, it seems that the old beauty of Rangamati has returned.”
This famous suspension bridge of Rangamati is not just a tourist attraction, but it is one of the attractions and identity symbol of the hill district.
