Shahana Hanif, a representative of Bangladeshi descent, has once again written her name in the pages of history by being elected for the second term from New York City’s Council District-39. He won by a huge margin in the general elections held on Tuesday, November 4. The people’s trust, love and commitment to representation has taken him to unique heights.
Elected for the first time in 2021, she made history as the first Muslim woman councilor in New York City. This time his re-election is not just a victory, but a reaffirmation of public support for progressive leadership, community awareness and immigrant-friendly politics.
Shahana’s work in the district, which includes residents of the greater Brooklyn area including Kensington, Park Slope, and Carl Rammel Hill, ranged from multi-faceted park and street development to school infrastructure, environmental projects, health and immigration rights protections. His initiatives led to the passage of the Immigrant Worker Protection Act, the Abortion Rights Protection Act and the Lupus Awareness Bill.
After the announcement of the election results, the election headquarters of Shahana shook with joy. He said, this victory is not only mine – it belongs to our whole community. Shahana Hanif’s rivals in the election were Brett Wynkoop of the Conservative Party, Nicky Kane of Voters First and Libertarian Matthew Morgan.
According to the results, Shahana Hanif got 51653 votes, which is 96.04 percent of the total votes. His closest rival, Brett Wynkoop of the Conservative Party, received 5218 votes
