
Meeting of representatives of Netherlands Embassy with media workers in Sylhet

Plan International Bangladesh and Jago Foundation Trust along with three representatives of Bangladesh Netherlands Embassy in Sylhet participated in a discussion meeting on Wednesday (November 5) under Samata Tarunya-Youth for Equality project.
Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh has a four-year termis financing the project.
In the discussion meeting, information was given about various activities related to media workers under the project. Journalists highlighted various experiences related to local media workers’ field work and the use of gender-sensitive language in news.
On behalf of the Netherlands Embassy in Bangladesh, the First Secretary Mr. Ian Suilians was present; Senior Policy Advisor (Gender & CivilSociety) Mr. Mashfiqa Zaman Satyar; and Mr. Bird Easing, Financial Advisor.
Plan International Bangladesh was represented by Director (Program) Mahin Newaz Chowdhury; Deputy Director (Programs) Neelima Yasmin; Project Consortium Manager. Hossain Shakir and Project Media Specialist Ratan Malo.
Jago Foundation Trust Senior Manager (Program Implementation) Md. Iftikhar UlSaurabh Saha, Manager of Karim Samatay Youth Project; Project Officer Mehnaz Warda Lithi and Sylhet District Coordinator of the project Ayesha Parveen were present.
In the discussion meeting, local media workers were discussed about how they can be more aware in reporting news, using language. Sylhet is requested to participate in media competition in 2026 under Samatay Tarunya project.

Notably, Samatay Tarunya Project: Plan International Bangladesh and Jago Foundation Trust are jointly implementing the four-year “Samatay Tarunya – Youth for Equality” funded by the Netherlands Embassy in eight districts of Bangladesh.
Youth in equalityThe project is working towards positive social change and equality based society through youth capacity building, media literacy, online safety and strategic partnership with educational institutions and advocacy activities with youth-led organizations.
The project aims to empower youth, practice gender-sensitivity in media, eliminate gender discrimination and establish women’s rights.
