Smuggled fertilizer seized in Bhangura, dealer fined

Local farmers seized a van of smuggled chemical fertilizers in Bhangura upazila of Pabna on Tuesday. Later, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate conducted the mobile court and fined the fertilizer dealer ten thousand rupees.
Ariful Islam, a farmer of Rangalia Pram, said that on Tuesday morning, a fertilizer dealer named Salim Hossain smuggled some fertilizer in a van.He was sending to the upazila. He gets suspicious and with the help of local people, the fertilizer van is seized.
Akhiruzzan Masum, President of Bhangura Upazila Farmers’ Party, said that due to the negligence of the agriculture officer, the dealer was smuggling fertilizer to another upazila. But the farmers of the upazila are not getting fertilizer. Due to farmers’ protests recently, arrangements have been made to sell fertilizers at a fair price in this upazila. That’s why the dealer Selir Hossain is a retailer of another upazilaFertilizers are smuggled to sellers at higher prices. Along with this, he demanded to arrange the sale of the remaining fertilizer in the dealer’s house directly to the farmer.
Upazila Assistant Kashimner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mizanur Rahman admitted the truth of the incident and said that 15 bags of smuggled DAP, Urea and Potash chemical fertilizers were seized by local farmers and reported to him. Later he manure management through mobile courtsAccording to Act-2006, the dealer paid a fine of Tk 10,000 to Salim Hessen. Also, the fertilizers were seized and handed over to the Agriculture Department, he said.
