Yesterday, on November 18, at the Chittagong Association’s own building in New York, Brooklyn, America, this program was conducted by the general secretary of the organization, under the chairmanship of the president of the association, Mohammad Abu Taher.Ariful Islam

Invited guest barrister Manowar Hossain was felicitated with a bouquet by two-time former president of Chittagong Samiti and former chairman of board of trustees Mohammad Hanif, founder treasurer of Chittagong society and former co-chairman of board of trustees Shamsul Alam Chowdhury, former president of Chittagong society and one of the current members of the board of trustees of Bangladesh society Kazi Sakhawat Hossain.Azam

The guest of honor of the event, Barrister Monowar Hossain, expressed his gratitude to the executive council of the Chittagong Association of North America and all the members of the organization and said that the people of Chittagong are scattered all over the world. Chittagong residents have gained reputation in various types of business and professions. Although an initiative has been taken in the past to gather Chittagong residents under one umbrella, spread globally, CovidIn the pandemic, that initiative fell. When Mr. Manowar proposed to revive this initiative, everyone present supported it.

Mr. Manowar in his speech highlighted the history of his continuous struggle for the development of Chittagong and said, we have to make the next generation a part of this struggle. Chittagong is still neglected in many ways, it should be freed from this neglect. The people of Chantgaon should be vocal in this regard collectively from the country and abroadHe urged. He said there is no alternative to properly coordinated efforts of the City Corporation, CDA, WASA, Water Development Board, Port and Power Authority to properly complete the work of the mega project conducted under the supervision of the army for the last 7 years at the cost of thousands of crores of rupees for the long-term solution of waterlogging in Chittagong city. Besides, the long awaited Kalurghat new bridge of the people of Chittagong is fastHe urged the Bangladesh government to implement it.

Speakers at the meeting thanked Barrister Monowar Hossain for his long-term contribution and sacrifice for the development of Chittagong, and for his continued efforts by forming the Citizens’ Forum. In order to move Chittagong forward, barrister Monwar and his comrades started protesting the neglect of the then government towards Greater Chittagong from the eighties and its plans.The tumultuous and universal movement for development that was carried out through the Sangh Committee was the demand of the hour. If not for that, Chittagong would have been far behind. Those who agitated for the development of Chittagong did not do anything for any position or power or to get privileges, rather they did not enjoy the benefits either. They have worked selflessly for Chittagong.

In the President’s speech, Mr. Abu Taher, Barrister Monowar Hossain, was commended on behalf of the Chittagong Association for his sacrifices and efforts for the development of Chittagong.Thank you and he said that his desire is to build a relationship between international and Chittagong associations and organize international festivals in Chittagong. He said that everyone will work together to make it possible. At the end of the meeting, everyone was treated to dinner by the association.
