Burglary at house after attack on journalist in Faridpur.

A robbery has taken place at the house of journalist Sajjad Hossain, a resident of Rahim Mor area on West Khabaspur Maulana Abdul Ali Road in Faridpur Sadar. The theft took place on the night of December 4 by breaking the back front door. At that time, it is said that various furnitures of the house were vandalized and valuables were looted.

Journalist Sajjad Hussain was attacked by a group of security forces on the night of 11th (of May) for his bravery in journalism, and for performing his duties with integrity. He was seriously injured in that attack. Faridpur referred the doctor to Dhaka for better treatment. Since then, he has been under treatment in Dhaka for a long time. In that context, a group of thieves took advantage of the opportunity to commit this theft as the house was empty.

Journalist Sajjad Hossain said, I published several irregularities and corruption news in Faridpur. On that basis I was brutally hacked and injured with intent to kill. That's why my family has been receiving threats from various quarters ever since the attack on me. It is because of that enmity that my house may have been systematically burglarized.”

Going to the ground, it can be seen that various materials including cupboards, showcases, furniture have been vandalized. Every room in the house is found to be ransacked. According to the family, the amount of damage is around Tk 4 to 5 lakh including valuable electronics, important documents and various items.

The newly appointed officer in charge of Kotwali police station SM Nuruzzaman visited the spot.

He said, we found signs of vandalism and damage to the house. If the victim files a written complaint, legal action will be taken.”

Locals complain that incidents like theft and robbery have increased due to less night patrolling in the area. Locals have also expressed concern in this incident.

Journalist Sajjad Hossain said,
"I've been targeted for doing journalism. I'm under treatment with life-threatening conditions. Meanwhile, my home was attacked and stolen—it's not just theft,This is an incident with the purpose of intimidation." The incident has caused condemnation and anger in the local journalistic community. They demanded a quick investigation and bring the criminals to justice.
