Drug dealer attack on journalist in Keraniganj: Police complaint

There was an attack by local drug peddlers on the crime reporter of Dainik Pratidir Kagaz and Secretary General of Bangladesh Online Journalist Welfare Union (BOSCO) Central Committee Md. Faisal Howladar in Jianagar area of Keraniganj Model Police Station. In this incident, he filed a general diary (GD No-318) at the police station. The incident took place on Friday (December 06, 2025) at 5:15 pm at Kholamora Jianagar Kacha Road
Ashar Alo School Lane Main Road. It is said in GD, when journalist Faisal tried to record a video of local drug dealer Nizam Hossain (42) selling drugs to a rickshaw driver, 4-5 unidentified persons including Nizam blocked his way. The assailants snatched away his Vivo 712 mobile phone, camera stand and daily newspaper multimedia mic. Nizam, along with his wife *Amena Begum (36)* and some others beat Faisal by killing and injuring Nilaful in different parts of his body. He was also threatened with death. Since the attack, he and his family have been suffering from insecurity, the GD said. Faisal Hawladar requested that the incident be recorded in the police station’s general diary for future protection. This incident has created intense anger and anxiety in the area. Moniruzzaman Dablo, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station said, “We have received the complaint. We will visit the spot tomorrow and take necessary action.” Bangladesh Journalist Torture Prevention Cell strongly condemned the incident. Chairman of the organization Khairul Alam Rafiq said, “It is very worrying that journalists are being attacked by drug dealers. If the attackers are not arrested within 24 hours, we will be forced to go on a strict agitation.” He also said,Their organization is always active in stopping torture of journalists and will play an all-out role in ensuring the justice of this incident.
