No more people can be killed at the border “Md. Mostafa Al Ihaz”
After today, one more person will be killed on the border and will be tried in the international court for border killing
On the initiative of the Sovereignty Protection Council, a protest meeting and protest march was held on Tuesday 9 December 2025 at 10:30 am in front of the National Press Club at the border of Moulvibazar and Lalmonirhat to protest the killing of Bangladeshi citizens and the conspiracy of the Indian media on the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
In the protest meeting and demonstration under the chairmanship of Lt. Col. Khandaker Faridul Akbar and the chief coordinator of the Sovereignty Protection Council, Md. Mostafa Al Ihaz, the vice president of Zia Lawyers Forum, Advocate AMN Abed Raza, was present as the chief guest. Chairman Engineer Syed Abdul Hannan Al Hadi, Joint Secretary of Nationalist Tati Dal. Moniruzzaman, RJF Chairman Zahirul Islam, Milan Mallika, Abdul Alim, Mizanur Rahman, Jalal Ahmed and local leaders from Lalmonirhat and Moulvibazar.
Md. Mostafa Al Ihaz, chief coordinator of the Sovereignty Protection Council said,
India is exploiting Bangladesh politically, economically, trade, in their literature, songs, dramas, films, they want to disturb the hill region by instigating the tribes of Chittagong Hill Tracts, India is at the root of all the crimes.
Bangladesh and India share a long border. Bangladeshis are often killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border. Bangladesh demanded an end to border killings many times, but it did not stop. India has on several occasions promised to stop the killing but has not implemented it. As a result, Bangladeshis are being killed regularly at the border. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is responsible for security at the border. But they have always failed to stop the killing of Bangladeshis by BSF.
BSF has been consistently killing Bangladeshis on the border for years. According to a report by human rights organization Human Rights Support Society (HRSS), 2015-BSF killed 305 Bangladeshis in 10 years till 24. 43 people in 2015, 28 people in 2016, 30 people in 2017, 15 people in 2018, 42 people in 2019, 51 people in 2021, 17 people in 2021, 23 people in 2022, 30 people in 2023 and 26 people in 2024 killed two Bangladeshis in the last few days. They killed 31 Bangladeshi citizens in 2025. There was no trial for these murders. These innocent Bangladeshis lost their lives in the firing of BSF jawans.
The India-Bangladesh border is known as the Redcliffe Line. This border line was determined when India and Pakistan became independent in 1947. British jurist Sir Cyril Radcliffe, chairman of the India-Pakistan Border Commission, determined it on 17 August 1947. Today’s Bangladesh was part of Pakistan then. India’s border with Bangladesh territory in 1947 is the border of today’s independent Bangladesh. There is a 4,96 km long border between Bangladesh and India and it is the fifth longest border line in the world. Bangladesh shares borders with five Indian states. It has a border of 262 km with Assam, 856 km with Tripura, 318 km with Mizoram, 443 km with Meghalaya and 2217 km with West Bengal. India has been building a barbed wire fence along this border for a long time. Already about 3 thousand 180 km of fencing has been completed. The remaining 916 km of the border cannot be fenced due to thick forests, high mountains, rivers and swamps. Killing and building fences on the border are certainly not signs of friendship.
Besides, many Bangladeshis were injured and some of them were paralyzed in their attacks. On January 7, 2011, a 15-year-old Bangladeshi girl named Felani Khatun was shot dead by the BSF. He was supposed to get married the next day. His body was hanging on the barbed wire fence of the border for a long time. This picture is published in media all over the world. But the Indian court acquitted others including BSF member Amiya Ghosh involved in Felani’s murder. An appeal has been filed against it in the Supreme Court of India, but that trial has not yet been completed.BSF killed Swarna Das, a class VIII student, on 1 September 2024 and 15-year-old Jayant Kumar Singh on 9 September. Swarna Das was visiting her brother living in Tripura, India with her mother. Thus, India continues to kill innocent Bangladeshi citizens in the name of security at the border.
There are international guidelines for border management. There are also bilateral agreements. Two such agreements between Bangladesh and India are the Joint India-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities of the Two Countries, 1975 and the India-Bangladesh Coordinated Border Management Plan, 2011. According to the Joint India-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities of the Two Countries, 1975, if a citizen of one country tries to enter another country illegally or is involved in a crime, then the border guards of the respective country can take any action in self-defense, but it is advisable not to use firearms. But India does not comply with these agreements. If a Bangladeshi commits a crime at the border, he can be arrested and brought under the law and prosecuted and punished. But BSF does not follow that path. They are always using firearms and killing Bangladeshi citizens. Many high level meetings between BSF and BGB have been held at various times on the border issue and the issue of border killings has been discussed. In each of these meetings, the BSF promised to reduce border killings to zero. But BSF never kept its promise.
We demand an end to the killing of Bangladeshis at the border forever. If necessary, I demand the government to raise this issue in various international forums including the United Nations.
Bangladesh is independent sovereign country. India has to accept this reality. Bangladesh always wants good relations with neighboring country India. Every year a large number of Bangladeshis visit India for various purposes including medical, business and tourism. Many Indians also come to Bangladesh. Many people in the border areas of Bangladesh and India have developed ties of kinship among themselves through marriage. There is a billion dollar trade between the two countries. Several river ports for trade and commerce on the border,There are land ports and custom houses. There are many border huts. Bus and train services exist between the two countries. Bangladesh and India share a common border and a common river. But India has always been killing Bangladeshi citizens on the border and depriving Bangladesh of its fair water from the same river. After all, India stopped granting visas to Bangladeshi citizens and export of potatoes, onions and other products to Bangladesh. India provides safe haven to identified terrorists and criminals of Bangladesh. As a result, Bangladesh is suffering from all aspects. We want this to end. For that India has to stop the border killing forever, we condemn and protest the border killing, we demand immediate trial of the border killing in the international court. After the protest meeting, a protest march started from the National Press Club, went around the Kadam Fountain and ended at the Press Club.
