The longer the election is delayed, the more apprehensive it will be; Mahmudur Rahman Manna

President of Nagrik Oikya and former VP of Daksu Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that earlier the Election Commission had said that the schedule would be announced around 7/8 of this month. Then it was heard that the 11th schedule will be announced. The Election Commission says don’t talk about the election date, we are watching. We have said that elections should be held before fasting. The more the election is delayed, the more apprehensive it will be.

He said these things to reporters while inaugurating the district office of Nagrik Oikya in Kurigram on Sunday (07 December) afternoon.

Manna said that Begum Zia had made an extraordinary contribution to the coalition of all democratic movements in this country. He suffered a lot, endured a lot of torture. Everyone wants him to be in this election process. There is a concern about his health. That is why we have in mind whether there is any change in the election situation or not. But we want him to recover and elections will be held at the right time.

He also said that we had other parties including BNP with us in the fifteen years of struggle, we are in contact with them. Talks are going on with them. However, no electoral consensus has been developed so far. We don’t want to do anything alone.

At this time, the central general secretary of Nagarik Oikya Dal, Shahidullah Qaiser, member Abdur Razzak,Kurigram district committee convener Bir Muktijoddha retired Major Abdus Salam and other leaders and activists were present. Later, the freedom fighters addressed the rally at the Victory Pillar of Independence at College Road in the district town.
