
Death threat to journalist in Madhavpur, GD at police station
In Madhavpur of Habiganj, there has been an allegation of death threats to a journalist for publishing news against drug trade and smuggling. In this incident, he made a general diary (GD) at Madhavpur police station on Sunday afternoon.
The victim journalist. Zakir Hossain (35) is Madhavpur correspondent of Daily Amar Habiganj newspaper and senior vice president of Madhavpur Upazila Press Club. He mentioned in the GD that Nasir Ahmed Khokon (38) of South Dharamgarh area threatened him because of the news published against him.
According to GD sources, on December 13, around 5:30 pm, the accused called journalist Zakir Hossain through WhatsApp and asked him to stop writing and threatened to kill him. On the same day at around 9:30 pm, the accused along with some of his accomplices allegedly went to the journalist’s house and abused his parents and threatened to kill and injure him.
Journalist Zakir Hossain said that he has been under pressure and threats for a long time due to the regular publication of news against drug trade and various irregularities. In this latest incident, he and his family are suffering from extreme insecurity.
In this regard, the officer in charge of Madhavpur police station Md. Mahbubur Morshed Khan said,The complaint was accepted as a general diary. The matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
