Dumki’s muradia, people are crossing through dangerous paths.

The bamboo fence built by locals on Muradia river in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali district has now become extremely dangerous. It has become a ‘death trap’ for the residents of both sides of Srirampur and Muradia Union due to lack of renovation for several years.
Locals said that a few years ago, they collected bamboo and wood in voluntary work and built a bridge to ease the traffic on the river adjacent to West Muradia Government Primary School No. 27. This initiative was taken to ensure the safe passage of school children, but due to lack of renovation in the last 3-4 years, the barrier is almost broken. Every day children students and locals are crossing at the risk of their lives.
Jharna Begum, head teacher of the school, said that the Sankoti had not been repaired for a long time. Many parts have softened. Urgent reform is needed.
Local residents Abu Hanif Kalam Khan, Abul Jalil Hawladar, Marim Hawladar, Sayajdadi Mridha and Zaban Mridha said, “The cost of repairing the panels is high. It is not possible for anyone to give alone. If we could buy bamboo, trees and guna, we could repair it with our own labor. Hafizur Rahman, acting chairman of Muradia Union, said.This is a longstanding problem. Union Parishad budget is limited. However, after talking to the locals, measures will be taken for the urgent renovation of Sankoti very soon.
