Great Victory Day Today: A day of national pride, unity and democratic commitment

December 16, Great Victory Day. An unforgettable glorious day of valor and valor of the Bengali nation for a thousand years. On this day, an independent state called Bangladesh emerged on the map of the world after defeating the Pakistani occupying forces through the 9-month bloody liberation war of 1971.

On the occasion of the day, President Md. Sahabuddin and Principal Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus gave separate messages.
The President said that democracy needs to be strengthened and institutionalized to bring the real benefits of freedom to the doorsteps of the people. He emphasized on building a culture of tolerance, mutual respect and unity at all levels of individual, society and state life.
Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus said, let this Victory Day be a day of reunification in national life. In the spirit of the liberation war, he urged people to take an oath to protect the true empowerment of the people and the new journey of democratic transition at any cost.

In the continuation of history, the seeds of the liberation war were planted through the language movement. The struggle that started on February 21, 1952 took its final form in 1971. Armed resistance started with massacres by Pakistani forces on the night of 25 March. On that day, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence and called for a war of liberation. People of all castes and creeds of the country risked their lives to fight despite lack of training and modern weapons. The final victory came in exchange for the lives of 3 million martyrs and the honor of 2 million mothers and sisters.

Analysts’ opinions about the position of Bangladesh after five decades of victory have also emerged. Emeritus Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury of Dhaka University said that the test of nationalism is still going on. Economist Professor Anu Muhammad said, intellectual liberation and active population are essential to strengthen anti-discrimination politics and culture in the spirit of liberation war.

Today the nation remembers the martyrs with deep respect and gratitude. Earlier in the morning, the President and Chief Adviser laid wreaths at Savar’s National Memorial. After that, various political and social organizations including Vir Shrestha family, war wounded freedom fighters, brave freedom fighters, diplomats paid their respects.On the occasion of the day, national flags were hoisted in all public and private buildings, lighting was done in important structures. DMP has taken special measures to maintain law and order. Special circulars have been published in newspapers; Prayers and worship have been organized in religious institutions for the peace and prosperity of the country. Today is a public holiday. Liberation songs are playing throughout the city, red-green flags are flying.

Program:
Various political parties and socio-cultural organizations including BNP, Jasad, NCP are holding various programs on the occasion of Victory Day. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangla Academy, National Museum, Shishu Academy and Chhaynat have organized special events. At 10 am, the National Anthem was hoisted with the participation of children and teenagers at the Liberation War Museum. A mass procession and colorful flag march will be held from Satyen Sen square towards Suhrawardy Udyan at 4 pm.On the occasion of Great Victory Day, today the whole country is celebrating and remembering the immortal martyrs of freedom.
