The state burial of Sabuj Mia, a peacekeeper of the Bangladesh Army, who was martyred in a terrorist drone attack on a base under the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Abey area of Sudan, has been completed. Relatives, people from all walks of life, responsible officers and members of the army buried the dead body at the village house to bid their last farewell.
Sabuj Mia’s dead body was brought to the Tulsighat helipad in Gaibandha in an army helicopter on Sunday, December 21. Later, the body was taken by ambulance to his own home in Chota Bhagbanpur village of Mahdipur union of Palashbari upazila. As soon as the body reached the house, a shadow of mourning descended on the whole area. The tears of relatives and neighbors turned into a mournful atmosphere. After the body reached the house, relatives, neighbors and local people gathered to take a look. His mother Chakhina Begum collapsed in the courtyard of the house. Again and again he loses consciousness. Relatives and neighbors are trying to console him.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s wife, Nupur Akhtar, a final year student of higher secondary school broke down in tears and said that she lost her husband after only one year and eight months of marriage. All dreams ended in an instant.
Martyr Sabuj Mia is the son of deceased Habidul Islam of Chhota Bhavanpur village of Palashbari upazila. He grew up through the harsh realities of life, losing his father at a young age. This brave soldier gave his life while serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission. He was buried between the graves of his father and grandmother in the family cemetery after the statehood was conferred by the army and tributes were paid on behalf of the upazila administration under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Jaber Ahmed. Later on behalf of the army, Sabuj Miar provided various materials for the family including used materials.
Before that,The dead bodies of 6 soldiers reached Dhaka yesterday at 11:05 am on Saturday. Bangladesh Army Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim received the bodies of the peacekeepers at the airport. At this time, everyone stood and observed a minute of silence and saluted with respect.
Note,On December 13, separatist armed groups launched a drone attack on a base of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Abeyi, Sudan. 6 peacekeepers received martyrdom. All 9 injured people are safe. Among them, 8 people are undergoing treatment in Kenyan hospitals.
