
Rare species of peacock rescued in Kurigram
Upazila administration and forest department recovered a rare species of peacock injured in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram.
The peacock was recovered from a house in Deldarganj Bazar area of Buraburi Union of Ulipur Upazila on the banks of Brahmaputra river on Sunday morning (January 11).
A joint team of upazila administration and forest department under the leadership of upazila assistant commissioner (land) SM Mehedi Hasan rescued the peacock.
According to local sources, on Saturday (January 10) at noon, local residents saw the peacock next to a corn field near the Brahmaputra river in Deldarganj area. Later, when some people tried to catch it, at one point the peacock was injured in the net used in the corn field. Then local resident Saddam Hossain rescued the peacock and kept it in his house.
On Sunday morning, upazila administration and forest department officials went to the spot and rescued the peacock. According to locals, the weight of the peacock is approximately four kg.
Ulipur Upazila Forest Officer Fazlul Haque said that the recovered peacock has a wound on its left leg. It has been treated initially.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Mehdi Hasan said,The rescued peacock has been handed over to the Rangpur Forest Division office for better treatment and safe preservation.
