On January 18, 2026 at the Juice Center in Jackson Heights, New York, at 7 pm Orbit”71 New York and Progressive Forum USA organized a memorial service in memory of veteran freedom fighter advocate Sheikh Aktar Ul Islam. The condolence meeting was presided over by former president of Progressive Forum Vir Muktijobdha Khorshed Ul Islam and moderated by Orbit”71 New York. Convener Advocate Mia H Zakir. At the beginning of the meeting, 1 minute silence was observed in honor of late Advocate Sheikh Aktar ul Islam. General Secretary of Progressive Forum USA Zakir Hossain Bachchu and Member Secretary of Orbit-71 New York Advocate Jayjit Acharya gave welcome speech. Freedom fighters, lawyers, journalists and leaders of various organizations were present in the mourning meeting. Matiur Rahman, Senior Journalist and Orbit-71 Advisor Hakikul Islam Khokon, Former President of Bangladesh Law Society USA Advocate Mohammad Ali Babul, Mithun Ahmed, Former Editor of Bangladesh Law Society USA General Advocate Syed as guests in the condolence meeting. Jahangir, late Sheikh Akhtar ul Islam’s younger brother Sheikh Atiqul Islam, Al Amin Babu, journalist Uttam Kumar Saha etc. Bangladesh Law Society USA Treasurer Advocate Mahbub Alam, Munmun Saha, Journalist Sohel Chowdhury and Muzharul Islam Chowdhury Mucha were present in the condolence meeting among others. The speakers in their speech paid tribute to the various memories of the late Advocate Sheikh Akhtar ul Islam and for his organizational activities, he will remain inexhaustible to all.This heroic freedom fighter and senior lawyer of the nation will always be remembered for his many contributions to the country and society. Imam Qayyum led prayers for the late Sheikh Akhtar ul Islam in the mourning meeting.
