February 1st Phalgun. That is, the beginning of the spring season in the Bengali calendar. However, in this eastern part of America, spring on the calendar page will start on March 19. But Bengalis came to America with hearts full of memories and nostalgia. Autumn flowers, monsoons and almost all spring flowers are fragrant in their hearts. When this spring comes they become excited. Beauty shines in the heart like a new flower. Another reason is Valentine’s Day on February 14. No matter how cruel the history of Valentine’s Day is, only the love part of it has been embraced by people all over the world. But most of them are young. This day is Pahela Phagun in the Bengali calendar, so Bengalis living in America organize Basant Utsav or Phagun Utsav on this day like in Bangladesh. On this day, young women wear yellow saris or Punjabi, adorn their khomps with belli flower garlands and go to Vasant Utsav or Phagun Utsav. And Americans wear red clothes on this day regardless of men and women.
On this day, lovers exchange feelings of love for each other. Gives gifts, hugs, kisses. Give the card. However, in this capitalist society, this love has been converted into a profit-making tool. Now one of the things to do on Valentine’s Day is to dine at a restaurant. Selling various products starting from heart shaped cakes. Even balloons, candies, cards etc. Valentine’s Day is essentially a day to recreate the romantic feeling in the heart.
