Barendra University Media Adviser Filed for Sexual Harassment

A case has been registered against Golam Rabbani, a media adviser and part-time teacher of Varendra University, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman.

The victim woman filed this case at Chandrima police station of Rajshahi city at 5:00 pm on Tuesday (March 3). Ghulam Rabbani has been made the sole accused in the case filed under Section 10 of the Prevention of Torture against Women and Children Act (Amendment-3). Thana police accepted the case and sent it to the court on Wednesday (March 4).

It is mentioned in the statement of the case that the plaintiff was working as a journalist in an online news portal called ‘Sky Bangla’ managed by Golam Rabbani. Last year on July 4, 2025 at around 12 noon, he was called to the ‘Sky Bangla’ office located at house number 329 of road number 1 of Padma residential area under Chandrima police station.

The plaintiff complained that when he went to the office at around 12:30 noon on that day and entered the accused’s room, he was found alone and forcibly sexually assaulted. At one point, he got out through a scuffle and later quit the job.

After the incident, the plaintiff filed a written complaint with the Varendra University authorities and informed the matter to colleagues and acquaintances. The affidavit stated that since the complaint, the accused continued to intimidate and harass her in various ways.

It is alleged that he was forced to file a police case on the advice of his relatives and friends without getting any remedy from the university authorities.

According to the victim woman, besides her, some other students have filed a written complaint against Gholam Rabbani of sexual harassment and harassment. These complaints have been sent to the Vice-Chancellor of Barendra University, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education, Police Administration and Machranga Television, but no visible investigation or judicial process has been started so far, they alleged.

It is also known that on 2nd March 2026, the Rajshahi Television Journalist Association members were informed by e-mail on behalf of the affected students.

Allegedly,After the incident, the accused has been spreading slander and defamatory campaigns against the victims through fake IDs on social media and threatening false cases. He also said that Gholam Rabbani molested different girls at different times. But no one dares to open his mouth against him out of fear.

The accused Golam Rabbani has been contacted multiple times to get his statement, but his comments have not been received.

When asked, Chandrima Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Monirul Islam confirmed the case and said that the case filed by the victim woman no.3 (3 March 2026). Police are working in the field to arrest the accused.
