Abduction and cruel torture of businessmen in Dakshin Keraniganj, demand for extortion of Tk 50 lakhs

An organized terrorist group has been accused of abducting a businessman in South Keraniganj of Dhaka and inhumane torture. The victim businessman Md Nizamuddin (42) filed a complaint at the police station and sought higher level intervention.

According to the complaint, Md. Nizamuddin is engaged in the work of tree planting contractor under BIWTA. On February 20, 2026, a group of terrorists forcibly abducted him while he was staying in Hasnabad area under Dakshin Keraniganj Police Station at approximately 6:30 PM.
The complaint also states that after the abduction, he was taken to the office of the local volunteer group (adjacent to the Hasnabad shrine) and taken to the torture cell room on the 2nd floor where he was severely beaten and subjected to inhumane torture.
The victim claimed that the terrorists demanded an extortion of Tk 50 lakh from him and threatened to kill him. Besides, signature on white non-judicial stamp was forcibly taken from him and cash of Rs.2000 was confiscated.

Later, when he was released with serious injuries, he received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After treatment, he filed a written complaint at Dakshin Keraniganj police station.

However, the complainant claimed, no visible effective action has been taken so far. On the contrary, he alleged that the accused were threatening him and his family in various ways.
In this regard, the victim Md Nizamuddin said, “I am still suffering from insecurity. I demand from the administration to ensure speedy justice and security.”
