Last Monday (March 16), the president of Bangladesh Ganamukti Party (BGP) MA Alim Sarkar said in a statement that it is deeply sad and shameful for the nation that the condolence resolution was accepted in the name of the people convicted of war crimes in the 13th National Parliament. On behalf of Bangladesh Ganamukti Party, we strongly condemn and protest that this condolence proposal has been accepted. The basic spirit of our freedom gained through the great liberation war was to establish humanity, justice and democracy. In that context, accepting a condolence proposal in memory of those convicted of war crimes is an insult to the dignity and history of the National Parliament. Khabar IBNNews. Taking such a decision there questions the sacrifice of our liberation war martyrs and sends a wrong message to the new generation.
We strongly feel that the National Parliament must always stand for the ideals of the liberation war, human values and justice. Any honorific treatment of those convicted of crimes as serious as war crimes is contrary to the nation's history and morals. We appeal to protect the dignity of the concerned national parliament and to uphold the spirit of the liberation war to refrain from such decisions in the future.
