In 1971, the Pakistani secret service (ISI) joined with the political party Jamaat-e-Islami to form militia paramilitary forces like Al Badr (Moon), Al Shams (Sun) to stop the freedom-seeking people of Bangladesh. These forces targeted the disaffected and participated in war crimes like rape among other crimes. Local collaborators known as Razakars were also involved in these heinous crimes.
Members of the Muslim League, Nizam Islam, Jamaat-e-Islam and Jamiat Ulama Pakistan, which were defeated in the 1970 elections, allied themselves with the military and continued to act as their allies. Several top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami were accused of colluding with the Pakistani army and committing rape and murder, some of whom were tried by the International War Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh. The following demands were presented in the rally-
1) Expressing strong anger and condemnation for bringing condolence motions in the name of convicted war criminals and crimes against humanity in the National Parliament.
2) Members of Parliament expressing their disdain for disrespecting the National Anthem in Parliament.
3) Why is ICT being used to suppress political opponents while stopping prosecution of war criminals and crimes against humanity in ICT? I am protesting it.4) The government is making a strong demand to play a diplomatic role in gaining international recognition of the Bengali genocide in Ekawur.
5) The proposal to form public opinion in favor of the bill raised in the US Congress to demand recognition of the Bengali genocide of 1971 was accepted.
