On the occasion of 'World Free Media Day', on Sunday, May 3, at 1:30 PM, media workers held a rally in New York demanding the unconditional release of all the journalists arrested in Bangladesh and the immediate withdrawal of the filed cases. As the organizer, the banner of 'New York Journalist Community' had pictures of journalist Shahriar Kabir, editor Shyamal Dutt, media personality Mozammelon Haque Babu, journalist couple Farzana Rupa and Shakeel Ahmed. In the speech of the chief guest of the rally and protest held by TV journalist Pinaki Talukder, Farida Yasmin, the former president of the National Press Club in Dhaka, said with anger, that by filing murder-cases against dissident journalists and arresting several senior journalists and targeting hundreds of journalists for arrest, obstacles to brave journalism have been created in Bangladesh. Not only that, the bank accounts of many editors and journalists have been frozen. They are not allowed to come abroad by confiscating their passports. Some senior journalists were sent back from the airport.
Farida Yasmin said, however, Muhammad Yunus and later Tariq Rahman came to power with the promise of creating a discrimination-free and corruption-free state. Faridar Yasmin said, I demand immediate release of all arrested journalists and withdrawal of all false cases filed.

Shaban Mahmud, former Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and former Press Minister of the High Commission in Delhi, said that the occupation of the media house and the dismissal of hundreds of journalists, along with the confiscation of the exidation cards of more than two hundred journalists, have taken place. Such an anarchic situation has never happened in Bangladesh before.
Sajjad Hossain Sabuj, the former press minister of the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, said that the mass media workers of Bangladesh are afraid of false murder cases and arrests. There is no minimal environment for independent journalism. There is only flattery competition going on.
Senior journalist M Fazlur Rahman said that the movement started from this exile should be continued to pave the way for free journalism in Bangladesh. Journalist Mojahid Ansari said that in the last two years, the most number of journalists were killed in Gaza and the most number of journalists arrested and tortured happened in Bangladesh. By stopping free journalism in Bangladesh, the path to the rise of the defeated powers of the 1970s has been paved. Everyone should be vigilant against it.
