Mega project of World Bank in Tarab Municipality in Rupganj will change the scenario of civic services

An important workshop was held in Tarab Municipality of Rupganj with the aim of sustainable urban development and construction of climate resilient infrastructure. This program was organized under the 'Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project' funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Directorate of Local Government Engineering at Tarab Municipal Auditorium on Wednesday (May 6) morning. The project director of RUTDP was present as the chief guest in the workshop under the chairmanship of municipal administrator Saiful Islam.
According to sources at the workshop, the main aim of this project is to accelerate economic growth by connecting municipalities in the South-East region of the country with the North-West region. Besides, four special plans were discussed to develop modern urban management capable of dealing with the risks of climate change. These are:- Cluster Development Plan, Capital Investment Plan, Municipal Development Plan and Climate Resilient Action Plan.
Officials related to the project said that in the first phase, this program will be conducted in 81 municipalities and 6 city corporations of 36 districts of Bangladesh. As a result, about 2 crore 10 lakh people of the country will be directly benefited, more than half of whom are women.
In the workshop, the project said, the areas included in Tarab will be constructed with high-quality roads, footpaths, modern drainage system, street lights, public toilets, markets and bus terminals. Also, civic services will be brought to people's doorsteps by constructing dumping stations, supermarkets, bridges and culverts for waste management. Special emphasis has been given in this project to ensure a safe urban environment especially for women and children.
Project Chief Gender Specialist Sajeda Begum, Urban Planner Tamanna Salam, Social Management Expert MTS Mehmood, Environment Expert Md. Hasibul Haque, Environment Expert Arunmita Prasad, Municipal Executive Officer of Tarab Municipality were present as special guests.
Md. Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, Municipal Executive Engineer of Tarab Municipality Azizul Haque,Tarab Municipal Assistant Municipal Engineer Mohammad Zakir Hossain along with councilors and local dignitaries were present.If this project is implemented, Tarab municipality will develop as a modern and model industrial city.
