Eid-ul-Azha ahead. Like every year, the busyness of cow farmers of Dumuria upazila has increased. Different breeds of cows are being prepared to fetch good prices in the market. Farmers are fattening cows using indigenous methods to produce safe beef.
In the 14 unions of Dumuria upazila, thousands of farmers are busy rearing cows in the hope of getting good prices at the farmers market. In these farms, cattle of different breeds including Sindhi, Pakistani, Australian are being fattened.
Dumuria Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Minu Sahar of Raghunathpur village of Raghunathpur Union of Dumuria Upazila inspected a 1600 kg 40 mind cow of 5 years. Md. Ashraful Kabir, Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Abu Saeed Suman, and Dumuria
General Secretary of Press Club Sheikh Mahtab Hossain and many others visited Minu Rani's 1600 kg 40 mind cow.
Minu Rani asked the price of her 5-year-old cow for 14 lakh rupees and will sell it if it is 12 lakh rupees. The king named the cow Manik, he taught the cow what the cow said by listening to everything he said.
Visiting several villages in the area, 3-4 people are regularly tending cows in each farm.
However, according to the information of the upazila livestock department, the picture is a little different. They said, 9 thousand 5 hundred and 98 people in 14 unions of the upazila are rearing cattle in family and commercial farms. And from this, 45 thousand 8 hundred 36 cattle will be produced in 51 farms. Which is sufficient compared to demand.
This time also 3 animal markets are being established permanently and temporarily in 14 unions approved by the upazila administration. However, the huts will be specially supervised by 5 veterinary medical teams.
Farmer Minu Saha said, this year the demand for cows for sacrifice is high but the price of cow feed is high. Even then, as before, they feed the cows to make them fat. A cow costs about 7/8 hundred rupees per day for food. The price of each cow for sale this year is about 80 thousand to 16 lakh rupees.
He also said that currently there are 4 domestic and Australian breeds of cows. Still whose estimated market value is Tk 4/5 lakh,Due to last year's loss, this time also to recover the loss
Farmers are worried about whether they will be able to do it. On the other hand, Amir Hamza, a cow farmer, said that a few days ago he sold all 8 cows and now there are 5 cows in his farm.
Kharniar Jewel, Md. Jamal and many others said that the sellers are asking for two-three times the price of cows this year compared to last year.
Many people, including seller Md Nazrul, say that due to the high price of cow feed, their expenses for rearing cows have increased. So the price of cow is high.
Dumuria upazila livestock officer. Md. Ashraful Kabir said that the local animal resources office is providing all kinds of support to encourage farmers and farmers. On the other hand, last year, the NGO is providing financial and technical assistance to 49 farmers to fatten cows in indigenous ways under RMTP scheme of Family Development Agency (FDA). Cow rearing is increasing day by day. Once upon a time, some unscrupulous traders used harmful steroids and hormonal drugs to fatten cows. The trend of fattening animals using harmful drugs is no more. Even after that, 3 veterinary medical teams of 5 each went to the farm in Dumuria and monitored whether the cows were being fattened illegally or not.
Dumuria Upazila Nirbahi Officer Miz Sabita Sarkar praised this successful farmer and said:
"The success that this farmer has shown by rearing Raja Manik is an exemplary example for our upazila. The cow fattening project is completely natural without the use of any harmful steroids or chemicals, which is very important for public health.
Our aim is to engage the educated unemployed youth of Dumuria in such agri-based and livestock sector initiatives. On behalf of the upazila administration, we are working to ensure loans and all government facilities to such entrepreneurs on easy terms. hopefullySeeing his success, many others will come forward in modern and scientific methods of cow rearing and change their fortunes."
