A strong call for public involvement in the fight against corruption
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) initiated a public hearing to raise public awareness and participation in anti-corruption in Gaibandha and held a meaningful exchange meeting with local media personnel.
On Wednesday (May 6) at 11:30 a.m., the meeting organized in the conference room of the District Commissioner's office was organized by the Rangpur district office of the ACC; Gaibandha District Administration and District Corruption Prevention Committee cooperated in this.
Deputy Director of Local Government (DDLG) Mushfiqur Rahman, ACC Deputy Director Md. Shawn Mia, District Corruption Prevention Committee President M. Abdus Salam and more than half a hundred media workers of print and electronic media.
The meeting turned into a lively and participatory discussion, where the responsible role of the media in anti-corruption activities was highlighted.
In the meeting, the ACC informed that a public hearing on anti-corruption will be held at Gaibandha district indoor stadium on May 11.
On this occasion, temporary complaint boxes have been set up in front of the office of the District Commissioner, the city public library and the office of the Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer, so that common people can easily submit their complaints.
At the same time leaflet distribution, miking and various promotional activities are continuing to increase public awareness. Those concerned said that on the basis of the written and verbal complaints of the victims, legal action will be taken against those involved in corruption by conducting a quick investigation.
Emphasis is placed on joint efforts of administration, media and general public to make public hearings effective and fruitful.
On the other hand, the media workers referred to this initiative of the ACC as timely and commendable and highlighted the irregularities, suffering and corruption prevailing in various government offices of the district. They said the service-seekers have been facing complications and harassment for a long time — this public hearing will serve as an important platform to bring those issues to light.
