The leaders of the Motalib Plaza shopping complex in the capital have alleged that a group is spreading false and baseless propaganda around the newly formed ad hoc committee of the Shop Owners Association. Convener of the committee Khandkar Akhtar Hamid Pawan and member secretary Md raised these allegations in an emergency press conference organized at the office of the association at 12 noon on Sunday (May 17). In the press conference, Khandkar Akhtar Hamid Pawan said that their opponents made several false allegations against the newly formed committee in a press conference late at night, which have no basis. He complained that Md. Mahbubur Rahman Bachchu, Md. Shamim Molla, Zaheer and Masud have been holding Motalib Plaza traders hostage for a long time and extorting extortion using various techniques.
He further said, "They are spreading false propaganda against us as their way of extortion is blocked through the present committee. We are being presented as agents of Awami League in various places, which is completely false. We have never been involved in Awami League politics. At the same time, allegations of showing power by using the names of top leaders of BNP are also baseless."
At this time, the member secretary. Shah Alam Bepari said that charges of embezzlement of Tk 15 crore and currently Tk 80 lakh have been made against him, which are completely false and intentional. He claimed that allegations of political identity and influence are being spread baselessly.
He said, "Spams are being spread using the names of MPs Mirza Abbas and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi saying that I am gaining influence. There is no evidence for these allegations."Traders present at the press conference sought the government's cooperation to maintain a peaceful business environment at Motalib Plaza and expected the intervention of law enforcement agencies.
