
Debut of Rangamati Journalist Union with more than half a hundred media workers

A new organization “Rangamati Journalist Union” has made its debut by combining the journalists of various print, electronic and online media working in Rangamati with the determination to establish the rights, professional dignity and unity of journalists. The journey of the organization has started with the conviction of protecting the professional rights of journalists, practicing objective journalism, strengthening mutual unity and working for the welfare of media workers.
On the occasion of the organization’s debut, a discussion meeting and exchange program was organized at a restaurant in Rangamati city on Friday (22 May 2026). Journalists working at different levels of the district participated in it.
After the discussion, Jamuna TV staff reporter SM Shamsul Alam was appointed as president, Daily Amardesh and SATV representative Mohammad Solaiman as general secretary and Daily Financial Express and Dainik Banglabazar representative Shantimoy Chakma as organizational secretary was formed as the 31-member executive committee. Also, 50 journalists working in the district were initially nominated as members.
Newly elected president SM Shamsul Alam said in the event that the profession of journalism is facing various challenges at present. Despite the rapid development of information technology, spread of false information, professional insecurity and various limitations, journalists have to play a responsible role. In this situation, the emergence of “Rangamati Journalist Union” is due to the need to protect the rights of journalists, establish professional dignity and create a unified platform.
He also said, “Our main goal is to build a strong and effective platform for journalists working in Rangamati. We want journalists to be able to carry out their professional duties independently and impartially. Besides, the organization will also work to ensure the fair rights, safety and welfare of journalists.”
