Marriage rape allegation: Human chain against Khondkar Alamgir, DUZ organizational action

Journalist leader Khondkar Alamgir Hossain's allegations of rape, long-term harassment and moral lapses by luring a female journalist into marriage have sparked a strong reaction in the journalist community. Women journalists have formed a human chain to demand immediate organizational action against the accused in this incident. At the same time, in view of the complaint, the Dhaka Journalists' Union (DUJ) has issued a show-cause notice along with suspension of his membership.

On Monday (May 25) at 10:30 a.m. in front of the National Press Club of Dhaka, the human chain was held under the banner of "Women Journalist Oikya". Journalists, photographers and cameramen of various media participated in it.

Convener of the organization Ayesha Siddika and member secretary Jasmine Jui spoke at the human chain.

In her speech, Jasmine Zooey said, "If such a stigmatized person is associated with traditional organizations like the National Press Club and the Dhaka Journalist Union, then women journalists feel alarmed and scared."

He also said that it is necessary to take quick and effective organizational measures against Khondkar Alamgir Hossain to protect the dignity and working environment of the journalist society. Speakers from Manbandha demanded that necessary action be taken against the accused subject to fair investigation of the complaint.

Meanwhile, it has been informed by the Dhaka Journalists Union that the membership of Khondkar Alamgir Hossain has been temporarily suspended following the provisions mentioned in Article-6 (c), 6(2) and 6(3) of the constitution of the organization, on the grounds of the union's interests, discipline, moral lapses and defamatory activities.

At the same time, he has been asked to show reasons within the next three days as to why his membership should not be permanently cancelled.

DUJ also said that Khondkar Alamgir Hossain was serving as the treasurer of the organization. According to Article-9 of the Constitution in the arising situation, someone from among the members of the executive council will be given the responsibility of treasurer.

According to the organization,This decision will be effective immediately.
