Training workshop on preservation of sacrificial animal skins, distribution of free salt at Dimla
On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, training workshops and distribution of free salt have been held in Dimla to raise public awareness on proper preservation of sacrificial animal skins.
The workshop was organized by the upazila administration at Dimla Upazila Farmer Training Center on Sunday (May 24) at 3 pm. It was presided over by Upazila Executive Officer and Upazila Parishad Administrator. Imranuzzaman.
The workshop provided detailed guidance to the participants on slaughtering of sacrificial animals, proper skinning, salting, storage, transportation and marketing as per Islamic Shariah.
The speakers said that if enough salt is not used on the skin after the sacrifice, it will deteriorate quickly. In addition to the wastage of national resources, there is also a risk of financial loss.
Upazila executive officer. Imranuzzaman said, "It is very important to properly preserve the skin of the sacrificial animal in view of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Leather is a valuable resource of the country and it is directly related to our economy. A large amount of skin is lost every year due to a little ignorance or not using salt on time. That is why everyone should be aware of preserving the skin quickly and properly after the sacrifice."
He further said, "This training workshop has been organized by the upazila administration to give the necessary guidance to the butchers, leather traders, madrasa authorities and related parties. We hope that through this initiative, the wastage of leather will be reduced, the quality will be maintained and the local economy will also benefit. Besides, we are calling on everyone to complete the Qurbani in a clean and environment-friendly manner in accordance with the hygiene rules."
Bisik District Office Deputy Manager Nurel Haque said, "If the skin of the sacrificial animal is not stored properly, there is a danger that it will spoil in a very short time. Therefore, after slaughtering the animal, the skin should be cleaned quickly and enough salt should be used. It is very important to apply salt well around the folds of the skin. This will ensure the quality of the skin and the market price will be good."
He also said,"Trained butchers should be used for slaughtering and skinning animals during sacrifice. Careless cutting of the skin reduces its value. So there is no alternative to awareness. We hope that this initiative of the upazila administration will make common people more aware of skin preservation."
At this time, the upazila livestock officer Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mir Hasan Al Banna, Project Implementation Officer Ashraful Islam, Banbeis Officer Shahinur Rahman, Academic Supervisor Amir Borhan, officials of various departments, public representatives, journalists, imams of mosques, butchers, leather traders and Madrasa representatives were present. After the workshop, free salt was distributed among the tanners and Madrasa authorities.
