Nephew beaten up for blocking cow at Qorbani animal market in Ashulia, uncle killed while trying to save him
It is reported that a medicine trader named Shahidullah Qaiser (50) was killed while trying to save his nephew who was beaten up in a dispute over cow tethering at Qorbani animal market in Shimulia Para village of Ashulia. When he was brought to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex in an unconscious state, the doctor on duty declared him dead. According to the family, the person was killed after being beaten up by the workers appointed by the hut authorities.
The incident took place on Tuesday (May 27) at the animal market of Paragram Korbani in Ashulia's Shimulia Union.
The deceased is Shahidullah Qaiser (50), son of deceased Matiar Rahman of Mangalbari area of Baishakanda Union of Dhamrai. He was a medicine merchant.
Witnesses and relatives of the deceased said that the deceased, his brother and nephew came to the market with 18 cows and two goats. Out of this, 14 cows were sold. The remaining four cows were awaiting sale. There Shahidullah Qaiser protested when another person went to tie a cow at their designated place. At that time that person and the people appointed by the Hat authorities came and attacked his nephew and him. Shahidullah Kaiser was beaten while trying to save his nephew. They were severely beaten and nearly 5 lakh rupees were taken from them. At one stage Shahidullah Qaiser was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. There the doctor declared him dead.
Firoz Kabir, the nephew of the deceased who was present at the scene, said, "I went with my uncle to sell cows at Qorbani animal market. My uncle had 18 cows. 14 of them were sold. I was waiting with the remaining four. At that time, another person came to tie the cows at the same place and talked about the matter-There is a fight. When my uncle Mohammad Shahidullah Qaiser protested, some people from the hut authorities and some others who were around attacked us. I was attacked earlier during the attack. At one stage my majo uncle was also attacked when he tried to save me. At that time my younger uncle had 5 lakh taka for selling cows and majo uncle had 40 thousand taka for selling two goats. The attackers took the money. After the attack, we rushed to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. After a long observation, the doctor there said, "My majo uncle is dead."
Mohammad Masud Rana, the brother of the deceased, said, I went to a drug store. Looking back, I saw a fight going on in the market. Later I realized that some people were fighting with my nephew. I try to stop everyone to save my nephew. Tell them repeatedly, "Brother stop, don't beat me, I'm watching." At this time, my nephew was beaten for several minutes at a place in the market. Later another 15 to 20 people gathered there. At one point the accused entered a nearby hotel. I went behind them and tried to calm the situation again. But no one listened to me. Later again beat my nephew. At one stage I put my hand in my lungi near my waist and see that I don't have 5 lakh rupees with me. The money was taken in the incident of beating. After that my brother became unconscious. When he was brought to the hospital, the doctor said that he was dead.
He said that the conflict started first around cow binding. He claimed that some of the accused were Hat committee people and volunteers. I don't know everyone's name, but I recognize their faces.
In this regard, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Dhamrai police station Kazi Rezaul said, I received information from the control room that a person injured in the fight at Paragram Garuhat has died in the hospital. The legal process of the incident is ongoing. Arrangements will be made for post mortem and autopsy. Besides, the incident will be reported to Ashulia Police Station as the incident is under the jurisdiction of Ashulia Police Station.
He also said,In this case, further necessary action will be taken as per the instructions of the above officer.
