Drug addiction is not just an individual’s problem today, it has become a dire crisis for the entire society and country. Drugs are slowly destroying our young generation – who are the power to build the nation of tomorrow. If one person in a family is involved with drugs, not only that person, but his whole family suffers emotionally, socially and financially.
There is no drug gang, no religion, no class. It can strike rich and poor, urban and rural—everywhere. So instead of blaming each other over drugs, everyone should forget party, ideology and personal differences and work together. Because the problem that appears today in someone else’s house, tomorrow it can hit your family terribly. Drugs destroy a person’s thinking, conscience, dreams and potential. It can ruin a student’s future, darken the life of a working man, rob a family of peace. Drugs can also increase crime, violence, family turmoil and social degradation. It is important to find out why drugs are spreading in our society. Illegal drug entry across borders, activities of drug traffickers, lack of awareness, lack of family vigilance—all require effective action. But it is not enough to enforce the law, we need social prevention and awareness. We have to give time to our children, listen to them, create a good environment. Families, educational institutions, society and the state—all have a responsible role to play. A drug addict should not be hated, but given proper treatment, support and rehabilitation, so that he can return to a normal life.
It must be remembered that the war against drugs is not the work of one person or one organization alone. It is the responsibility of the entire nation. Our awareness today can save future generations. Let’s stand together against drugs. We all have a role to play in building a healthy, safe and strong Bangladesh. Because the biggest asset of a country is its people.And protecting those people is our biggest responsibility.
