Primary teachers strike in Kotalipara
Gopalganj’s Kotalipara government primary school teachers are on a strike to protest the implementation of three-point demands including salary in the tenth grade and the police attack on teachers in Shahbagh.

Moushumi Akhter Swarna, assistant teacher of government primary school attached to Uttarpara Madrasa No. 49, said, “We have been suffering from pay discrimination for a long time. Primary school assistant teachers should be paid in 10th grade. Higher grades should be given on completion of 10 and 16 years of joining the service and 100% guarantee of departmental promotion. Our agitation will continue until our demands are met.”

nameA head teacher, who did not want to be named, said, “Like the rest of the country, the assistant teachers of our school are on strike. Even as the students come to the school, the teachers are not teaching. We have given silent support to their just demands.”

General Secretary of Kotalipara Upazila Branch of Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers Association Oliullah Howladar said, “Teachers are not paid so low in any country in the world. The sameOther government officials are getting 10th grade despite having educational qualifications, but we are deprived. The main goal of our movement is to remove this discrimination. We, the teachers of all the primary schools of the upazila, have united and refrained from teaching in the classroom to make the movement successful.”

Kotalipara Upazila Education Officer Shekhar Ranjan confirmed the strike of teachers by saying, “In solidarity with the movement of Dhaka, KotaliparaAll primary school teachers are on strike. But the teachers are present in the school.”
