Reckless use of political identity over railway land grab in Khilkhet area of Dhaka North City has created renewed concern. According to the ground information, a class of politically influential persons have been occupying the railway property for a long time and are carrying out illegal construction and extortion activities.

Residents complain that by using political identity as a shield, these occupiers have turned the state’s resources into a source of personal income. Many are afraid to speak out against the cycle—for fear of being defamed, attacked, or harassed.

Railway land belongs to the state—not to any individual or political party. Encroachment of government land is legally a crime and against public interest. This is why the role of administration, railway authorities and local leadership is very important to take action against encroachers.

But the real picture is different. The rhetoric of some political leaders comes up as ‘don’t let the government encroach’ on government land – which is self-contradictory and a concern for law and order.
