
Bhasani Conference in New York September 19 – Demand for resolution of the Farakka problem through the United Nations

A joint meeting of ‘Bhasani Foundation, New York and International Farakka Committee (IFC)’ was held in memory of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, who was the founding president of East Pakistan Awami Muslim League. In the meeting, the decision to hold the Sixth Bhasani Conference in New York on Saturday, September 19 and the BNP government to take appropriate initiatives to solve the Farakka problem through the United Nations were demanded. The above decisions and demands were announced at the joint meeting of the two organizations held at Navanna Restaurant in Jackson Heights, New York last Wednesday (April 29) evening. Bhasani Foundation meeting was held in the first phase of the joint meeting. The meeting was chaired by the president of the organization and prominent politician Ali Imam. Chairman of IFC Syed Tipu Sultan and Secretary General Mohammad Hossain Khan, Chairman of Bhasani Conference Organizing Committee Ghiyas Ahmed, Organizational Advisor ABM Osman Gani, Weekly Bangladesh Editor Dr. Wazed Alikhan, Columnist and prominent journalist Saeed Tarek, President of News Portal Journalists Association and Kazi Azharul Haque Milan, Khandaker Farhad, Advocate Mojibur Rahman, Abdur Rahim Howladar, Babul Chowdhury, Farooq Hossain Majumder, SM Ferdous, Jahangir Sohrawardy, Saleh Ahmed Manik and others took part in the discussion, among others, Baps News Editor Senior Journalist Hakikul Islam Khokon and prominent TV Journalist Rimon Islam.
The speakers in the meeting paid deep respect to Maulana Bhasani and said that he is the only universal leader of Bangladesh. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great architect of the independence of Bangladesh and Military President Ziaur Rahman, who read the Declaration of Independence on behalf of Bangabandhu on March 27, 1971, respected him regardless of party affiliation.Maulana Abdul Haseeb Khan Bhasani was loved by the oppressed public leader. The speakers collectively called upon everyone to make the sixth Bhasani conference a success and said that by organizing such a conference, it will be an opportunity to inform the new generation of the diaspora about Bhasani as well as present Bhasani in the world court. Some speakers in the meeting also emphasized on making and promoting documentary on Maulana Bhasani.
Moinuddin Naser, general secretary of the foundation, said in the meeting that to make the sixth Bhasani conference a success, a committee has been formed with Giyas Ahmed, a prominent businessman and politician of Muldhara, as the chairman and Shahab Uddin Sagar, the editor of weekly Navjug, as the member secretary. A full committee will be formed soon through discussions. He also informed that as the publicity secretary of the foundation Azizul Haque Munna was not active and the executive member Parvez Sajjad was not able to be active in the performance of duties due to personal reasons, both of them were relieved of their duties and MA Baset and Belal Chowdhury were co-opted in their place. He also said that the new committee of the foundation will be announced in the upcoming conference.
In the speech of the president, Ali Imam said, Maulana Bhasani is the leader of all of us and a man of respect. The presence of today’s meeting proves that the expatriates, like the people of the country, remember it with deep respect. He said, we all will make the Bhasani conference a success. For this, he wants everyone’s full cooperation.
Syed Tipu Sultan, chairman of the organization, presided over the International Farakka Committee (IFC) meeting held in the second phase of the meeting. This episode was conducted by IFC Secretary General Mohammad Hossain Khan.
At this time, Syed Tipu Sultan recently mentioned his visit to Bangladesh and IFC’s program with several advisers of the interim government and the political leaders of various parties including BNP leaders. He said that the Farakka problem is not possible without the help of the United Nations, so he demanded the BNP government to take appropriate initiatives to solve this problem through the United Nations.
