The possibility of Awami League turning around, requires patience and self-purification

Professor Dr. AK Abdul Momen:
It is not new that the Awami League has come under fire. However, the Tsunami that will hit the Awami League in 2024 has not yet been saved. Still many Awami League leaders and workers have fled or migrated to different countries in fear of their lives. There is no shame in migrating for fear of life. About 1400 years ago in 622 AD, our beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) migrated from Makkah to Madinah to save his life and returned to his homeland after conquering Makkah for ten long years. The people of Makkah greeted him with cheers.

So there is no reason to worry. Awami League will return. But I can’t say when. The time of return will depend on the governance of the current government, their misdeeds and mismanagement. Moreover, especially on the activities of the Awami League party inside the country. It should be noted now that foreign governments or international organizations will not help Awami League to return home, the stronger the activities and movements of Awami League within the country, the easier and faster their return will be.

Since 1975, there are many possibilities

However, it can be said without hesitation that the position of Awami League is much stronger and more promising since 1975. In 1975, Awami League formed the government 21 years after the assassination of Bangabandhu by his own family. But now you don’t have to wait so long. The people of the country will bring Awami League back to power at their own insistence. But you have to be patient and self-purify. Reforms within the party are necessary and proper decisions must be taken by determining the exact cause of the recent collapse. A proper answer should be given to all the complaints that are being circulated against Awami League. All allegations that are false must be refuted with reasons why they are false. All allegations that are true should be investigated and those responsible should be admitted and punished and it should be ensured that it does not happen again.I think that the Awami League should publish separate white papers to inform the people of the country on the major issues and events of the country. For example, 234 billion dollars in fake allegations of smuggling abroad or the past rigged election or sleep-murder-murder, torture, Dr. Yunus’ mirror (a man with a 6-year-old child born in a mirror for 10 years and a towel that he claims to have used in ten years is still brand new that we saw on television (that towel company should be given a special award)) and objective white papers on jihadi inaction and terrorist mob culture etc. are desperately needed.

Awami League is the people’s party, people are the strength of Awami League

Awami League is the party of the people and the people are the strength of the Awami League. Awami League is another name for serving people’s hopes, people’s expectations, their overall welfare and the well-being of the country. Awami League is a strong spirit, an echo of Huday. So as long as people’s sorrows remain, as long as people’s hopes remain, as long as people’s expectations are not fulfilled, then Awami League will remain in people’s hearts. Awami League is not dead. Awami League will become vocal as soon as people’s rights and demands increase. Awami League made Bangladesh independent in 1971 and improved the fortunes of the poor people of the country through the thousands of years of demands and struggles of East Bengal. Awami League formed the government four times in a row, brightened the image of the country and raised it from a low-income country to a developing country.

Tsunami of 2024: Like a house burglar

Tsunami hit Awami League in July 2024. When robbers enter the house, the belongings are lost, the robbers kill some people of the house or the doorman (police) and run away with loot, this is what happened in Bangladesh.

To put children to sleep in childhood, mother-Grandmothers used to sing rhymes to “scare the class”. Bargi raids were common in Bangabhum from time to time – they destroyed and looted well-arranged households. In Gola, the fish in the paddy pond used to rob the wealth of the world and run away, this is what happened in the so-called movement of twenty-six. However, the future of Awami League’s turnaround from 1975 to now is more bright and promising.

Awami League was leaderless in 1975, now united

Awami League of 1975 became leaderless. A dichotomy arose within the party. Divided into different groups. But the happy thing is that the Awami League is still united and Sheikh Hasina is the undisputed leader of this party. Thank God Almighty that he is still alive. Almighty Allah kept him alive for some special reason. So currently, the possibility of Awami League turning around is very high. It took 21 long years to reach seventy-five. I believe it won’t take long now.

As in 1971, a large number of Bangladeshi people in diaspora are Awami League supporters, which was not the case in 1975.

During our liberation war in 1971, the diaspora Bengalis, especially the Bengalis from England and the United States, played a very strong role. As a result, the British government took a position in favor of the independence of Bangladesh. Although the then Nixon-Kissinger government of the United States was against the independence of Bangladesh. But members of the US legislature and intellectuals, teachers, journalists and singers of various classes and professions took a strong stand in favor of the independence of Bangladesh. The small number of diaspora Bengalis at that time played a supportive role in various initiatives to attract the attention of foreign nationals to the rightful demands of Bangladesh. US lawmakers lobbied strongly in favor of Bangladesh in the US Congress and Senate, resulting in the passage of legislation outlawing the sending of arms to Pakistan.

But in 1975, this was not the case. In 1981, when I founded the “Committee for Democratic Bangladesh” in Boston to establish a multi-party democratic government system in Bangladesh,Then the military government of Bangladesh unfairly deposed me from the government service by the order of PO Odar-9 and there were no supporters except for a handful of two or three people. At that time there was no party called Awami League or BNP in the United States. By writing for seven long years from 1981, I was able to attract the attention of influential people in the United States by publishing the Bangladesh News bulletin as an individual initiative. In 1988, I was able to organize a “Shonani on Bangladesh” in the United States Congress against the misdeeds and corruption of the Ershad government. Two people helped me by advising me in organizing that show and they are a student of Boston University and at one time Professor Munirul Islam of Chittagong University and the other is now a famous lawyer of Bangladesh Dr. independent owner. He and his wife were then studying for their Ph.D. degrees in Boston. However, that is not the case at present. Now there is no shortage of Awami League supporters and wealthy people in different countries of the world, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom. As they are citizens of all these countries, their hands are very long and strong. They can do many things if they want. That’s why I was saying that the current situation is very helpful since 1975-80. If we work sincerely, we are sure of victory.

Moreover, it is particularly noticeable that there are a large number of Awami League leaders and workers inside Bangladesh. Yunus government’s misdeeds, corruption, farce in the name of justice, looting and arbitrariness increased the people’s support for Awami League. Various media revealed that while Awami League’s supporters were 36% to 48%; the percentage has now increased to 60%. According to the polls of Prothom Alo and Daily Star newspapers, if Awami League had been allowed to hold elections in the last election, 69% percent of the people would have voted for Awami League. Fearing that the Awami League would win the neutral elections, the illegitimate Yunus government banned the Awami League and did not allow it to participate in the elections.

But the sad thing is that the people of Bangladesh accepted the ban? The United States will have midterm elections this year and it is believed that,The Democratic Party will win this election and then they can propose to impeach President Trump. If President Trump tried to defeat the Democrats, the father of mob culture. The people of this country, even his own party, the Republican Party, will certainly reject it if the Democratic Party, like the Yunus government, bans and orders the elections to be held in Patano. But Bangladesh is the land of all possibilities – even today, Selukash’s words seem to be true?

Sheikh Hasina’s achievements are incredible

Moreover, the achievement and development of Bangladesh during the regime of Sheikh Hasina is incredible. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali nation father of a thousand years, established an independent state called Bangladesh. Many leaders have been born in the territory of Bengal, many leaders have been born, but Bangabandhu is the only leader who united a lifeless subjugated nation and created the spirit of Bengali nationality and established an independent and sovereign state of red and green on the world map. For that he had to accept various sacrifices which are rare in history. It should be noted that Bangabandhu created Bangladesh and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made this nation a very prestigious seat in the world court. Sheikh Hasina took the poor and troubled Bangladesh on the highway of development, elevated it to the status of a developing country and reduced the country’s poverty rate to less than half. He established the country as a promising country, a vibrant economy and a land of opportunity. He wanted to establish Bangladesh as a hunger-free and extreme poverty-free country by 2030 and by 2041, by making Bangladesh a digital Bangladesh, he wanted to build Bangabandhu’s dream of Sonar Bangla, i.e. a developed prosperous stable economy where food-clothing-education-health services would be guaranteed for all. However, those plans do not seem to materialize in the July movement. The July movement has pushed Bangladesh far back. It is unfortunate for Bengalis that those initiatives and plans remain a dream even today.
