
Police constable arrested with 500 pieces of Yaba in Narsingdi

District Intelligence Branch (DB) police arrested a police constable with 500 pieces of Yaba tablets in an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Belab and Raipura upazilas of Narsingdi. In this incident, the question of drug involvement within the law and order forces has been discussed anew.
According to a source of DB, a smart team of DB conducted a special operation in different areas of Belab and Raipura police station on Sunday (April 27) in connection with a requisitioned micro-house. On the same day at approximately 5:05 PM while staying in Lochanpura Bazar area of Raipura Police Station, it was learned based on secret information that a person from Baraicha Bazar area of Belab Police Station was entering Khamarerchar area on a motorcycle with a large quantity of Yaba.
Later, the DB members took a position in front of the ANM Jame Masjid at Khamarerchar. The suspected motorcyclist was apprehended when he reached there. Name of the detained person. Jeevan Mia (28). He is a resident of Madhyapara area of Chandib in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district and a constable working in Belab police station of Narsingdi.
During the search, a total of 500 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from three zipper bags kept inside a cigarette packet in his trouser pocket. The estimated market value of recovered drugs is around 1 lakh 50 thousand taka. Meanwhile, a blue motorcycle (Dhaka Metro-Law 11-6292) used by him has been seized.
According to DB Police, arrested constable Jiban Mia admitted during initial interrogation that he was carrying these yaba for the purpose of sale.
In this incident, a case has been filed at Belab police station under section 10(a)/38 of 36(1) of Narcotics Control Act, 2018. The investigation of the case is entrusted to the DB Police.
Local residents alleged that the detained policeman was involved in drug trade in the area for a long time.
Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Md. Abdullah Al-Farak said, “We came to know about the matter through DB. We are seriously investigating whether any other member is involved in this incident. If anyone is involved, strict legal action will be taken against him.”
He also said,Police’s anti-narcotics drive will continue and those involved in such crimes will not be spared in any way.
