Keraniganj Model Police SI Delwar’s bribery and arrest business

An allegation has been made against SI Delwar Hossain of Keraniganj Model Police Station and demanding huge amount of money from the accused side after detaining the accused in police station.

Earlier, SI Delwar has also been accused of taking bribe from the complainant to settle the matter with the defendant and arresting the drug dealer and releasing him without taking him to the police station in exchange for money.

It is known that on May 22, Abir (21) father: Alamgir, mother: Rina Begum and Sabbir (25) father: Swadhin, mother: Sahida Begum were arrested and taken to the police station from Mandail Bazar area under Keraniganj Model Police Station.
But even after 36 (thirty-six) hours of taking them to the police station, they were not sent to the court.
There are many discussions about this matter in the conscious circles of the area.

In this regard, the defendants claimed that SI Delwar demanded a huge amount of money for not taking them to the police station and filing a case, but as they could not manage anything immediately, they were brought to the police station and were detained and pressured for money.
Undeterred, the defendants share the matter with various people they know.
When a few media workers and human rights activists spoke to SI Delwar to find out about this, he told them that the court was closed on Saturday, so they were kept here, tomorrow they will be sent to the mobile court, and he left on the pretext of duty.
According to the police station sources, after taking them to the police station, they were kept in the police station without being registered in the arrest list, and later the names of two were removed and the name of one was deleted.

According to the statement of the accused, the SI Delwar had cut one’s name in return for money but did not release him from lockup.

On 24/05/2026, Abir and Sabbir were sent to mobile court in Keraniganj upazila when there was widespread discussion among local circles and media workers about “atak trade” and Keraniganj upazila executive magistrate Jannatul Mawa sent them (15) to jail for fifteen days.Keraniganj Upazila Executive Magistrate Jannatul Mawa was asked to confirm the matter over phone and he confirmed the matter.

The accused’s family demanded that if SI Delwar sent them to jail in a drug case, why didn’t they send them to the learned court the day after their arrest, why would they be kept in police custody for 36 (thirty-six) hours and then released from us?

Some local residents, who did not wish to reveal their names, claimed that recently SI Delwar has been harassing them in various ways by taking some people to the police station on various charges.
Earlier also, SI Delwar came into headlines for bribery while working at Keraniganj South Police Station in 2024.

In this regard, some common people of the area say, “We respect the law” but if an innocent person is harassed, then it is very sad.

Meanwhile, various discussions are going on in the social media about the matter. Conscious circles say that if the allegations are true, action should be taken against SI Delwar through an impartial investigation.
An attempt was made to get the statement of the concerned officer of Keraniganj Model Police Station, but no comment was received immediately.
