Attack on journalist Abdullah Al Samrat while performing professional duties in Teknaf’s Hoikang, motorcycle vandalism: BMUJ Teknaf Upazila branch condemns

Journalist Abdullah Al Samrat was attacked by terrorists and bandits while performing his professional duties in Hoikang area of Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar. During the attack, miscreants vandalized the motorcycle he was using and created panic in the area.

It is known that a group of terrorists suddenly attacked journalist Samrat when he went to the spot to collect news. During this time he was threatened and his motorcycle was extensively vandalized. Locals alleged that the attackers organized this incident and spread panic in the area.

This incident has created intense anger and anxiety among the local journalist society, conscious citizens and various social organizations. They said that such attack on journalists is not just an attack on an individual, it is a direct threat to independent journalism, truth and media freedom.

Journalists fulfill the responsibility of making the people aware of various irregularities, corruption, crimes and public sufferings in the society. Therefore, the conscious community considers it an important responsibility of the state and administration to ensure their safety while performing their professional duties.

Meanwhile, Teknaf Upazila branch of Bangladesh Mofswal Journalist Union (BMUJ) strongly condemned and protested the incident. The leaders of the organization said in a statement that a vested interest group is continuously choosing the path of attacks, intimidation and torture to suppress the voices of journalists. But these attacks can never stop the path of truth and justice.They demanded that the attackers be immediately identified and brought under the law and exemplary punishment. Besides, the administration has been urged to take effective and strict measures to ensure the safety of journalists in the future.
