Two youths arrested on charges of raping a girl in Matiranga, two others are absconding

The police have arrested two youths on charges of gang rape of a girl in Ajoddha area of ​​Belchari union of Matiranga upazila of Khagrachari.

On Wednesday (October 22) around 6:15 pm, locals arrested Roni Vikas Tripura (32) and Detol Babu (17) and handed them over to the police. However, two other youths involved in the case—Suman Vikas Tripura(18) and Rimon Tripura (22)—are still absconding.

According to police and local sources, on the night of October 20, the girl went to the Ayoddha Kali temple with her relatives for puja. On her way back after the puja, the four accused called her to talk to her and took her to a secluded place and forcibly raped her.

Local compromise was initially attempted after the incident but failed. Later, the girl’s family took the matter to the policewas informed.

Khagrachari District Superintendent of Police. Arefin Jewel said, “The victim is currently in police custody. The two arrested accused are being interrogated. Efforts are on to nab the two absconding accused. The legal process of the case will be completed soon.”

Meanwhile, this incident has created extreme anger and anxiety in the area. Locals have demanded swift arrest of the absconding accused and exemplary punishment.
