In Dumki Upazila, the controversial Lamiya rape case verdict

The verdict on the controversial Lamiya rape case of Patuakhali, the daughter of martyr Jasim Uddin, who was killed in the July 24 uprising, will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday (October 22). The court has already fixed the judgment date after the cross-examination and arguments of the plaintiff, witness and accused side of the case. Plaintiff and accused focus on the judgment of this case under trial in Patuakhali Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal.There is intense anxiety between the parties. Both sides are counting the days waiting for the court’s justice.
On the evening of March 18, 2025, Shahid Md. Naldwani village of Pangashia union of Dumki upazila of Patuakhali district. Jasim Uddin’s daughter Lamiya (18) was gang-raped on her way to her home in the neighboring village of Algi. She was a class XII student of Dumki Government Janata College. After the rape, the accused took pictures of the victim.contains and threatens to spread it through social media. The next day Lamia boldly filed a written complaint at the Dumki police station. The police first arrested the accused Shakib Munshi. Later two more accused Sifat Munshi and alleged lover Imran Munshi were also arrested. To confirm the truth of the incident, their DNA test was done. In the meantime, unable to bear the emotional pain of rape, Lamia died in Dhaka on April 26.Shekertek committed suicide by hanging himself in a rented house in the area. Later, his body was brought to his village and buried next to the grave of the martyred father. The mother of the victim, Moses. Ruma Begum said, “My daughter has to be lost today because she protested injustice. I want maximum punishment for the rapists for the peace of my daughter’s soul.” Public Prosecutor (PP) of the case, Advocate Abdullah Al Noman, said, “We have to prove beyond doubt in the court.Found that Lamiya was a victim of rape and the accused were directly involved in it. We expect justice.”
