A new chapter of preservation of heritage and history of the northern region is written today. The activities of the fifth divisional or regional office of the Directorate of Archeology have officially started in Rangpur.
In the opening ceremony held on Tuesday (04 November) at 11:30 am, the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Md. Mofidur RahmanHe announced the auspicious opening of the activities of the newly formed Rangpur regional office as the chief guest through a video message.
Director General of Archeology Department (Additional Secretary) Sabina Alam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Majid Ali BPM and Divisional Commissioner (Routine Duties) Rangpur Division Md. Abu Zafar (Joint Secretary) were present as special guests on the occasion.

In the context of the history of the Department of Archaeology, archeology began in the subcontinent in 1861 with the formation of the Archaeological Survey of India. After independence in 1972, its head office in Bangladesh was established in Dhaka. Later in 1983Through departmental reorganization, four regional offices were established in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Chittagong.
After more than four decades, the activities of the Department of Archeology have started in Rangpur as the fifth regional office.
