Expatriate Bangladeshi Palash Sarkar has been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the United States. It is said that he was arrested by Ice when he came to appear in a court in Pennsylvania. Palash’s Indonesian wife, children and family are in trouble because of the detention.
Meanwhile, a ‘GoFund’ fund has been opened with the help of the family of the Bangladeshi detained by ICE. Due to financial crisis, this fund was opened by the wife of arrested Palash Sarkar herself.
According to the information received, Bangladeshi expatriate Palash Sarkar was arrested by the ice authorities in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 3 this year. Ever since his sudden arrest, his family has been in dire straits.
The home of Palash government is in Sylhet district of Bangladesh. He came to the United States with his wife and children in 2021 and applied for political asylum. However, on the day of the scheduled interview, the ICE authorities arrested him and sent him to the detention center.
Palash’s wife is an Indonesian citizen. They have a five-year-old son. Currently, he is living in extreme financial difficulties.
He said, since his arrest, Palash has been transferred to New York, New Jersey, Louisiana and now Texas. He is in a room with about 70 people there. Four months have passed. “We have lost all our savings in running legal fees and daily expenses,” he said.
“I am trying to take care of our child on my own, but there are no resources left. My husband urgently needs financial help for bail and legal assistance,” she said.
Many people have already extended their support to the ‘GoFund’ fund. The money collected will reportedly be spent on lawyer’s fees, daily expenses and meeting the child’s basic needs.
The local diaspora Bangladeshi community expressed deep concern over the incident and called for humanitarian assistance. According to them, such incidents reflect the precarious reality of many immigrant families living in the United States.
It should be noted that in the second term of Donald Trump, the anti-immigration measures have become more strict. According to official statistics, as of September 2025, nearly 4 lakh migrants have been deported and 1.6 lakh migrants have left the country voluntarily.
In the first month of Trump’s second term alone, 37,660 immigrants were deported. Currently, 59 thousand 207 immigrants are in the custody of ICE. These incidents have caused panic among the South Asian and Latino communities.
