Invasion-free day celebrated on December 6 in Birganj

Pakistani Invader Freedom Day was celebrated with due dignity in Dinajpur’s Birganj. On December 6, 1971, Birganj Upazila was freed from the enemy through the heroic struggle of the freedom fighters.
According to history, three days before Birganj—December 3—Thakurgaon was liberated from the enemy. After that, when the Pakistani forces tried to escape towards Syedpur, they faced strong resistance from the Mukti and allied forces. A part of the bridge collapsed in the fierce fighting in Bhatgaon Setu area of ​​Birganj-Kaharol border and several freedom fighters and members of the allied forces were martyred.

At 4 pm on December 5, the enemy forces began to fall after an Allied air strike. Birganj was completely liberated at night and the next morning the flag of independent Bangladesh started flying in the sky of Birganj.

Birganj was under Sector 6 of Dinajpur during the War of Independence. Lt. Under the leadership of Colonel Kazi Nuruzzaman, Habildar Mostafizur Rahman led the battles of Birganj and Khansama.

On the occasion of Hanadarmukt Day, a procession was taken out on the morning of December 6 organized by the upazila administration. Later wreath laying and discussion meeting was held at the memorial of Shaheed Mohsin Ali and Shaheed Budharu Burman.
Dinajpur District Joint Convener and Birganj Upazila Convenor Muktijoddha Commander Bir Muktijoddha were present in the program. Freedom fighters including Kabirul Islam,Leaders of political and social organizations and students.
