
18th meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Council
Election, Devil Hunt Phase-2, Christmas and Thirty First Night Maximum security
The upcoming 13th National Assembly elections, progress of Operation Devil Hunt Phase-II, Christmas and Thirty First Night celebrations and the overall law and order situation were discussed in detail in the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order.
The concerned officials gave this information in the press briefing organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs after the meeting held on Monday (date to be noted).
It was informed in the press briefing that the operations of the law enforcement forces have been strengthened to recover looted and illegal weapons across the country. 6 thousand 598 people have been arrested till December 20, 2025 under Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 which was launched from December 13, 2025 with the aim of suppressing fascist and terrorist activities. At the same time, a total of 13 thousand 505 people have been detained including cases and warrant-based arrests.
It is reported that 56 firearms, 437 rounds of bullets, 137 rounds of cartridges, 62 indigenous weapons, grenades, mortar shells, gunpowder, firecrackers and bomb-making materials have been recovered in the operation.
Sharif Osman Hadi murder
The government says that the trial of the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, a frontline fighter of the July uprising, is being viewed with utmost importance. The joint forces (Police, RAB and BGB) have already arrested 10 people involved in the incident. Among them are Shaheda Parveen Samia, wife of mastermind Faisal Karim Masood, his parents, brother-in-law Waheed Ahmed Shipu and motorcycle owner Abdul Hannan.
Besides, the motorcycle used in the murder, 2 foreign pistols, 2 magazines, 41 rounds of ammunition and a toy pistol were recovered. The mastermind, Faisal Karim Masood, has been identified and operations are on to arrest him. Motive details have not been released pending investigation.
Jaksu election and festival security
In the meeting, it was informed that necessary preparations should be made to conduct the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) elections in a fair and peaceful manner. Earlier it was highlighted that Dhaksu, Jaksu, Raksu and Chaksu elections were completed successfully.Strict security arrangements are in place for Christmas and the Thirty First Night. Any kind of fireworks, road blocking or blockade will be prohibited. Security is being strengthened in important areas of the capital including Gulshan, Banani. DMP will take necessary measures to ensure extra security and normal traffic at each church.
Attacks on media and other crimes
17 people have been arrested in connection with the attack on Prothom Alo and Daily Star newspaper offices. Additional security and gunmen have been deployed at the residences of the two newspaper editors. 10 people have been arrested in connection with the beating and burning of garment workers in Mymensingh.
Tariq Rahman’s arrival and election preparations
Maximum security measures have been taken to mark the arrival of BNP Acting Chairman Tarek Rahman in the country on December 25, 2025. As part of Devil Hunt Phase-II, 2000 checkposts have been set up across the country. Two-thirds of the police training for the election has been completed and training on the use of body worn cameras has been completed.
