The speakers also said that the liberation struggle that started on March 26, 1971 was essentially a struggle for the survival of an unarmed nation, a struggle for the establishment of democracy and the right to self-determination. Thousands of freedom fighters, farmers, workers, students stood shoulder to shoulder and resisted the occupying forces.
Speakers said, this path to victory was not smooth at all. About 30 lakh people were martyred and millions of mothers and sisters lost their dignity in the war that lasted for nine months. Many houses and towns were destroyed. This war was a witness of extreme brutality on the one hand, as well as an epic of the highest sacrifice of the Bengali nation.
