Johran Mamdani will be sworn in on Thursday January 1 | Announcement of the largest party in memory

Hakikul Islam Khokan
The largest swearing-in ceremony in New York City history is expected to take place on Thursday, January 1, 2026. South Asian immigrant Zohran Mamdani will be sworn in as the new mayor on November 4. He will be sworn in by New York State Attorney General Leticia James and Senator Bernie Sanders. The Attorney General will take the oath of office at midnight at the beginning of the new year. Senator Sanders will take the oath of office in front of the city hall.
Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani’s press office said that since Zohran’s election slogan was ‘New Era’, the swearing-in ceremony was called ‘Ohadhamantdhrahrah ravh ghabi utdh’ – meaning the inauguration of a new era. The event will not only take place in the large open space in front of City Hall, but across Broadway Street so that thousands of New Yorkers can join the block party.
In the past, the swearing-in ceremony has been held at City Hall Plaza for 4,000 invited guests. This year, apart from the 4,000 invited guests, thousands of people will be able to attend. Senator Bernie Sanders said in this context, the future of New York City is held by its people, not billionaires. I would be honored to have Zohran Mamdani take the oath. Our Attorney General has defended New York City time and time again, said the Mayor-Elect. And Senator Bernie is giving me shade like an umbrella. I am grateful to them. Khabar Ibn News.
According to the New York Times, nearly 100,000 volunteers campaigned across the city for Mayor-Elect Zohran. All the voters, supporters including them are his strength. Transition team members said these volunteers want to be physically present at the swearing-in ceremony of their favorite candidates.
Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani was quoted as saying by the New York Times that the swearing-in ceremony or inauguration of the new mayor is actually a celebration of a movement. Working people in New York City are at the core of all our agendas. I want them on this auspicious occasion at City Hall.In 2022, new mayor Eric Adams was first scheduled to be sworn in at his own borough’s King’s Theater in Brooklyn. But later it was cancelled. Instead, he took the oath in Times Square after the New Year’s balldrop. Two previous mayors, Michael Bloomberg and Bill de Blasio, were sworn in on the front steps of City Hall.
The Mayor-Elect’s press office said the January 1 swearing-in ceremony will include an interfaith episode and musical program. Mayor Eric Adams’ attendance at the event could not be confirmed.
Two Bangladeshis have been included in the inauguration committee of the new mayor. They are ATM Kamrul Hasan, brother of the slain police officer Didarul Islam, and Zainal Abedin, president of the Bangladesh American Advocacy Group.Welcome new mayor Zohran Mamdani.
