Sonia Gandhi admitted to hospital

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the capital, several reports said on Tuesday. According to a report by ANI, he was admitted on Monday evening after developing respiratory problems.

Sonia Gandhi has been given antibiotics and other supportive medicines. His condition is currently stable and he is responding well to treatment, the news agency said, citing a hospital statement.

Meanwhile, a hospital official told news agency PTI that it was a routine admission and he has been kept under the observation of a chest doctor.

The official also said that Gandhi has a chronic cough problem and comes for regular checkups. The veteran Congress leader turned 79 last month.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Chairman Ajay Swaroop said after detailed examination, it was found that Sonia Gandhi’s bronchial asthma has slightly increased due to Delhi’s cold weather and poor air quality.

As a precautionary measure, doctors decided to admit him for observation and further treatment.

“He was experiencing shortness of breath and after medical examination it was found that his bronchial asthma has slightly increased due to the combined effect of cold weather and pollution. As a precautionary measure, he has been admitted for further observation and treatment. Currently his condition is absolutely stable,Swarup said in a statement.
